A Very Nob Hill Picnic

A Very Nob Hill Picnic

On Sunday it was beautiful again, so Ash, Duncan and I planned to meet St. Frances in Huntington Park across the street from Grace Cathedral after church. Ash was stoppping at Le Beau for sandwiches and Jake & Glinda were driving through town and they planned to meet us at the park.

"We'll pretty much be there all afternoon, so come by whenever," I told my mom. "It's a picnic, so you might want to bring a baguette."

They showed up with more than a baguette. All together, for lunch we had:

  • two baguettes, goat cheese and fig jelly
  • potato chips, veggie chips, guacamole and black bean salad
  • crudites and ranch dressing
  • a meatball sandwich, roast beef sandwich, veggie sandwich and meatloaf sandwich
  • a six pack of Pacifico and two bottles of Duckhorn Migration pinot noir
  • a dozen cake pops (gooey chocloate cake covered in a hard chocolate frosting shell on a stick)
  • and landscape design: when Ash & Duncan walked up, Duncan was carrying a large antique steamer chest over his shoulder

"It's for your garden!" Ash exlaimed, "you can plant things in it."

When I asked about the cake pops (never having heard of them before), my mom assured me they were a wise purchase.

"These are from your brother's favorite bakery. He likes their cake pops best."

"He likes theirs best?" I asked, alarmed. "As in he's sampled multiple brands of cake pops?"

After we emptied the first bottle of wine, Jake fell asleep. But we had to wake him up to carry the chest back to the car. It wouldn't fit in the back, so on the drive back to the house, it road shotgun, while my mom, St. Frances and I squeezed on the backseat.
