Blog Is Back

Diego asked me tonight what had ever happened to blogging on Fog City. "A number of things," I said...

  • I did a lot of traveling last month,
  • I was doing a lot of interviews,
  • And going on a lot of first dates,

And I kinda wanted to power through my life rather than reflect on it.

Diego knows that I can reflect a little too much sometimes, but going over a month without blogging was... too easy. It wasn't the backlog of posts that kept me from writing, it was the difficulty of turning my attention to what had happened during each day. To finding narrative in my life.

When I get like that, all caught up in "powering through," I do too much counting, too much keeping score, and not enough story telling. I count how many first dates I've been on, how much money I'm making, how much bigger my biceps are getting from working out, but I lose touch with why I'm doing.

And more importantly I lose touch with who I am, and who I care about. Without characters, without story, the narrative of my life becomes a balance sheet.

So the blog is back.

I'd apologize to you for staying away, for not keeping you updated. But it's me that's suffered the most without this discipline.
