Health Inspector
I was working there Thursday and I wanted a little snack to power through, so I bought this honey oat cake. God, was it awful. I could barely swallow the first bite, but I took another one just to make sure. Yup, pre-chewed cardboard would taste better.
So, I was in a less-than-charitable mood toward Oakside Cafe when the city health inspector burst in. At first I thought she was just some annoying woman who walked in the door shouting "I'm back! Are you the owner? Who's the manager here?" But when she started poking around and measuring the temperatures inside the refrigerators I figured it out.
As she led the manager around his own kitchen, rattling off potential violations, I got a little freaked out that one of my favorite cafes had a lousy health rating. But the inspector told me I could go online to check out the scores. Oakside got a 92%, which put it in the top of three categories.
If you want to check out the health scores for any of your regular haunts in the city, here's the link to the SF Dept. of Public Health site.
