Pardon My Petulance
After I complained the other day about getting too much family time over the holidays, I started to feel bad. There were actually a lot of wonderful moments with my brother, parents, aunts & uncles, and grandparents that I'm thankful for:
- Hiking through the marshes at Shoreline while the sun set on Christmas Day with my folks and my bro.
- My grandfather passing on all the books that helped him become a writer over his career.
- Getting to talk politics with my aunt (like me, an ex-Washingtonian) at the dinner table. We downloaded an electoral college app and, while finishing our apple pie, hashed out different paths for an Obama victory.
- Playing Power Rangers with the 3- and 5- year-old kids of my parents' best friends.
- Dinner over at the Cantler house.
- Walking up and down Manhattan Beach in a t-shirt.
So, yeah, I missed my independent, walkable life in the City, but it wasn't so awful. Most of the time, it was kind of great.
