SOTU Drinking Games
I just read a Slate article proposing you take a drink everytime Martin Scorsese calls Hugo a "picture," and I'm sure Californians have plenty of other drinking games for calling out Hollywood smug during Tinseltown's biggest night.
In what has now become the most infamous example of Hollywood smug, George Clooney's 2006 Oscar acceptance speech, he says, almost as the prototypical Californian, "I'm proud to be out of touch."
Well, for those of us who spent some of our lives outside of California, and are proud to be in touch, we have drinking games for Washington's biggest night: the State of the Union.
One I saw proposed this year is take a drink everytime Obama use the word "fairness."
Another was take a drink everytime he says "send me a bill."
The most challenging drinking game, possibly proposed by a SOTU-watching rookie, was: take a drink everytime Democrats stand up to clap and Republicans stay in their seats. If you're going to try that one, have a clear path to the toilet and maybe poison control on speed dial.
