"Stay With Us"

You know that outpouring of emotion and public tributes we saw after Steve Jobs died? I think there would be even more of that if we lost Ira Glass. I mean, so many of us make it through week only by hearing the soothing, practiced humility of his voice. I never intended to get hooked on This American Life, but it's just so powerful, calming, and insipiring to be drawn into narratives week after week.

When I lived in DC , I'd listen to podcasts on the Metro. Now, I listen to all my political podcasts while I'm washing the dishes, and I save TAL for the bus ride to/from the office. On a day that's not too rushed, I'll walk down to Sentinel, get a sandwich, and walk up a block to the Red Cross at Mission and 2nd. The front steps of that buildign are always in the sun from noon to 2pm, so I'll sit there, eat my lunch, and listen to about half an episode of This American Life.

And it's the best part of my day.
